New Hyde Park, NY-based Northwell Health will make its pharmacy and delivery service in-house for its 66,000 employees, potentially saving the health system $12 million, according to reports. Northwell Health recently unveiled a prescription medication mail-order program via its Vivo Health Pharmacy. The mail-order program will specialize in drugs for treating chronic diseases. Northwell Health will replace Express Scripts with its own pharmacy to reduce costs and facilitate the delivery of medicine, although employees can still use neighborhood pharmacies to fill one-time prescriptions. Vivo Health Pharmacy expects to increase the number of prescriptions it fills per day from approximately 50 to about 500, says Onisis Stefas, PharmD, Northwell Health's chief pharmacy officer. He says, "There will also be an expansion of 14 net new jobs because of the conversion. It's a big ramp-up for us."
