Get to know your 2023–2024 APhA–ASP National Executive Committee: Alexandra Cochran, national member-at-large

Alexandra Cochran is a final-year PharmD candidate at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

I am so excited to serve as one of your APhA–ASP national members-at-large this year! I can’t wait to meet so many of y’all and advance the field of pharmacy together.

I was born and raised in Woodstock, GA, but when it came time to choosing a pharmacy school, I’d always dreamed of going to University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy. The minute my husband and I moved to Knoxville, we fell in love with the city and the color orange (our school’s color).

I joined APhA–ASP on Zoom during the fall of my first year, and I had no idea then how much the academy would impact me as a student pharmacist. I had the honor of being elected as the  Knoxville campus vice president-elect/vice president, and this position is what sparked my love for APhA–ASP. In this position, I had the privilege of learning from my close friend and mentor, Hannah Holbert. She was the reason I first got involved in APhA–ASP, and there are not enough ways in the world to say thank you to her. I hope to take the skills she has taught me and apply them to my new role as national member-at-large.

In my free time, my husband and I are very involved with our local church, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to lead high school freshmen small groups there. We also like spending time with friends going to trivia nights and trying out new restaurants. When we aren’t at church or with our friends, you can find us going on walks or throwing a ball with our fur baby, Penny (a.k.a., the light of our lives).

I’m pumped to travel across the nation and meet so many of y’all this year. I hope to share with student pharmacists all the opportunities that APhA–ASP has on a local, regional, and national level and help every student pharmacist find a place for their voice to be heard. I’m ready to see what this next year has in store for all of us. See y’all soon!!

Five questions for Alexandra

1. What show are you currently binging?

Psych! An oldie but a goodie, plus it is my husband’s favorite show and I had to know what all the hype was about.

2. What is your most-used phone app?

Facebook. (Does that make me sound like a grandma?)

3. If you could live in any state, which would you pick and why?

I would either stay in Tennessee or move to North Carolina. Both states are beautiful and warm (most of the year) and have my favorite college teams—go Vols and go Heels!

4. What actor or actress would you want to play you in the movie about your life and why?

Kristen Bell. She’s hilarious and cares about her family, and I think we would be a good personality match.

5. You can only eat one food again for the rest of your life. What is it?

Gluten-free mac and cheese.
