The authors of the report note that this year’s recommendations for adults—individuals aged 19 years and older—are mostly the same as those for 2020. The report does include a special section on vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic and interim recommendations on administering the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
ACIP’s schedule for pediatric and adolescent immunizations includes changes to recommendations for influenza, meningococcal serogroup ACWY, meningococcal B, tetanus toxoid, and reduced diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccines. The notes section also includes information about COVID-19 vaccines.
ACIP’s 2021 vaccination schedule for adults includes new or updated recommendations for influenza; hepatitis A; hepatitis B; human papillomavirus; meningococcal serogroups A, C, W, and Y vaccines; meningococcal B vaccines; and the zoster vaccines. Since it is no longer available in the United States, the live herpes zoster vaccine (Zostavax) has been removed from the adult schedule.
The schedules for the use of routinely recommended vaccines are updated each year to reflect the most up-to-date guidance.
