Meet your 2021–22 APhA–ASP National Executive Committee: Sidrah Alam, National Member-at-large

LEADERSHIP

Sidrah Alam is a final-year PharmD candidate at the Shenandoah University Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy.

Greetings, pharmily! I am beyond excited to serve as one of your next APhA–ASP National Members-at-large!

I was born in New York City but have lived in Virginia since third grade. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond with a BS in biology and psychology. As well as entering my final year as a PharmD candidate, I am pursuing an MS at Shenandoah in pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine.

I have been involved in all aspects of APhA–ASP since it became my "home" during my first year of pharmacy school. Having served as APhA–ASP Chapter Communications Vice President for 2 years and as a Region 2 Member-at-large, I am now a Canva expert and love social media. One of my favorite parts of being involved is advocating with our state association, the Virginia Pharmacists Association, to educate legislators about the huge impact pharmacists have as members of the health care team.

My life revolves around pharmacy. Besides participating in APhA–ASP, I am also heavily involved in other organizations on campus. But most days, you can find me working with kidney cells in the research lab. When not in class, I am in the lab; working at Wegmans Pharmacy (if you have not been to Wegmans, you need to come to the East Coast ASAP); or volunteering with the Medical Reserve Corp (especially with administering COVID-19 vaccinations).

Outside of pharmacy, you're likely to find me Netflixing, obsessing over Harry Potter, or playing tennis. I am also a huge foodie and love finding new coffee shops and bakeries. My family is a big part of my life, and I spend a lot of my time baking them goodies. Although I was born and raised in the United States, my family is from India and Pakistan, and so I mostly jam to Bollywood music (if you're not familiar with the genre, look it up—trust me, you will want to dance right away!).

APhA–ASP has taught me the meaning of pharmily, and I look forward to a year of connection, success, and service to my community, profession, and fellow student pharmacists. During my term as APhA–ASP National Member-at-large, I will SIDE—serve, inspire, devote, engage—with all of you!
