2025 resolutions: Confidence and curiosity

Brian Cottingim is a final-year PharmD candidate at the Butler University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

I usually don’t make resolutions, but 2025 will mark some significant accomplishments I’ve worked toward for a while now.

In May, I will graduate from Butler University’s PharmD program. Looking back, I’m proud of how I handled the rigorous curriculum—those experiences taught me resilience and the importance of collaboration. After years of academic dedication and professional growth, I hope to channel my passion for patient care into an industry or association management fellowship. The application process has pushed me to consider what I value most in my future career.

Visiting Europe and revisiting my hobbies
Pharmacy school has been incredibly consuming for the last 4 years, and that means I have had to put a lot of my personal extracurricular interests on hold. The first thing I’m planning is a solo trip to Europe. This has been a dream of mine since high school, and rotational off-blocks give me the perfect opportunity to explore without the heavy time constraints of weekly classes or work schedules. Although the itinerary is still up in the air, I plan on exploring destinations like Madrid, Paris, and Rome. I also want to visit the small Polish village that my family is from.

I’m hoping that with my upcoming graduation and the first steps into my career, I will be able to settle into a routine and pick up some of the hobbies that I’ve been neglecting for so long, like painting, photography, and travel. Painting and photography has always been a creative outlet for me, and I’m excited to reconnect with that part of myself.

Ready for the next chapter
Overall, I’m apprehensive but excited to start this new year and this new chapter in my life. I’m eager to embrace the opportunities ahead, build on my experience, and grow in new ways.

I guess you could say that my new year’s resolution is to approach this next stage with confidence and curiosity.
