Geriatric Pharmacist Board Certification Review and Recertification Activities
ASCP and APhA are collaborating to offer board prep and recertification education for the geriatric credential.
APhA’s offerings will include a monthly clinical case study where learners are given the opportunity to practice
identifying medication related problems and making recommendations related to help keep older adults safe.
Additionally, APhA will offer education at APhA2024, a literature and podcast series and full certificate training
program on Deprescribing that will launch later this year.
APhA is approved by BPS as a provider for the recertification of BCGP.
APhA and ASCP’s Available Offerings
APhA’s Case Study Review and Recertification Package
This program consists of interactive case studies built with industry standard instructional design tools to
supplement the ASCP’s BCGP Webinar Series. Learners will be taken through various patient cases and make
decisions around patient care, with timely feedback given on their approach. Each course is accredited for
1.5 hours of continuing pharmacy education and board-certified geriatric pharmacist (BCGP) credit as
applicable.

ASCP’s BCGP Webinar Series
ASCP’s prestigious BCGP webinars offer both BCGP recertification credits and continuing pharmacy education
credits (CPE). ASCP's BCGP webinars are supported in part through a generous grant from the ASCP Foundation.
Each webinar provides 1.5 hours of continuing pharmacy education and BCGP credit as applicable.

Evidence-Based Podcast and Literature Series – Part 2
APhA has partnered with iForumRx.org, an
interactive web-based community of practice for Ambulatory Care, Community-based, and Geriatric Care
pharmacy specialists, to use their cutting-edge content for board recertification. The Evidence-Based
Literature Evaluation series includes succinct commentaries and podcasts about practice-changing studies as
well as complex patient case panel discussions and the popular Top Ten Things summaries. Designed to be completed
in 30-minute increments and released on a regular basis, the Evidence-based Literature Evaluation series
provides up to 10 hours of BCGP recertification credits annually.

Trending Topics in Geriatric Pharmacy
APhA offered 8.5 hours of BCGP recertification education at our annual meeting March 22-25, 2024 in Orlando
Florida. Sessions focused on timely subject matter designed to keep pharmacists current on the latest
developments in geriatric pharmacy. All sessions were recorded and will be made available as home study in
May 2024 as APhA Trending Topics.

APhA2024 Education Highlights
Deprescribing Certificate Training Program – Coming in 2024!
This 8-hour ACPE accredited Certificate Training Program will provide comprehensive education around the
topic of deprescribing for pharmacists. The program is targeted for pharmacists who care for older adults
with polypharmacy and will be designed using an interactive eLearning format where learners will obtain
foundational knowledge around concepts related to deprescribing and have case-based practice opportunities
for application.
