APhA Foundation scholarships open doors to new opportunities

Emily Weyenberg is a final-year PharmD candidate at The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and chair of the 2024–2025 APhA–ASP Communications Standing Committee.

I applied for an APhA Foundation scholarship last year because these scholarships offer a unique opportunity to deepen involvement in professional organizations such as APhA–ASP, allowing student pharmacists to dedicate more time to projects that promote both personal and professional growth. I was honored to receive the 2024 Marvin and Joanell Dyrstad Scholarship.

This scholarship was invaluable because it enabled me to focus on leadership roles, expand my professional network, and improve essential soft skills that aren’t always taught in the classroom. With this support, I’ve had the privilege to attend conferences such as the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition, the APhA–ASP Student Leadership Institute, and the APhA–ASP Midyear Regional Meeting. These events have allowed me to connect with fellow student pharmacists and pharmacy professionals, while also providing me with the opportunity to learn from industry leaders.

Reinforcing my commitment to excellence
My motivation for applying was also driven by a desire to demonstrate my commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy. Scholarships like this help to reduce financial stress and open doors to new opportunities. Being selected for this scholarship is a rewarding acknowledgment that my hard work and perseverance has paid off. It reinforces my drive to strive for excellence in all areas of my pharmacy journey and motivates me to remain involved in shaping the future of the profession.

I am truly grateful to have been awarded this scholarship and for the opportunities it has given me to continue my involvement with APhA–ASP and engage in such valuable experiences. My time with this organization has made my student pharmacist journey rewarding.

Time for you to apply
I strongly encourage you to consider applying for an APhA Foundation scholarship. They offer more than financial support—they allow you to pursue experiences that contribute to your growth as a future health care professional. Being recognized by a prestigious organization like the APhA Foundation is also an honor. The experiences, combined with the scholarship’s support, are invaluable, and I am forever thankful for the opportunities they have provided.

Apply today at www.aphafoundation.org/scholarships to take full advantage of this incredible opportunity! The application deadline is December 1, 2024, at 11:59 pm PT.
